Partylite was started in the early 1900's by a school teacher, Mabel Baker, with a passion for her hobby, candles. Mabel started out by giving her candles made from bayberrys to family and friends as gifts.In 1909, with the support of her husband, and even though it was uncommon for women to start a business at the time, Mabel's spirit and love of candles lead her to turn her hobby into her business. By 1965 Mabel's company was worth $6 million and by 1973 was looking for new ways to expand. The Opportunity
